Webinar - Climate Change and Migration

On March 20, 2026, from 18:00 to 21:00, the webinar of the Katerini Laboratory Center was held with great success, entitled:

«Increasing Migration and Climate Change Public Awareness through Collaboration and Teaching»

with the participation of approximately 130 people, including educators, researchers and professionals from the fields of education, environment and social sciences.

 

The event began with greetings from:

  • Mr. Georgios Makris, Director of the Pieria Secondary Directorate
  • Mr. Dimitrios Sidiropoulos, Director of the Laboratory Center of Vocational Schools, Katerini 

who also presented the European IMPACT program (impact-erasmus.eu), analyzing the goals, expected results and participating organizations.

🎤 Keynote Speakers & Topics

The webinar was attended by notable speakers who developed important topics:

  • Mr. Georgios Papadopoulos, Computer Science Teacher, E.K. Katerinis
  • Ms. Marialena Pantazi-Psatha, PhD Candidate, KU Leuven University (Belgium)
  • Ms. Vasileia Natsiou, Civil Engineer, Head of the Construction Works Sector, E.K. Katerinis
  • Mr. Alexandros Trapezanlidis, Project Coordinator, Voluntary Action Group of Pieria Prefecture
  • Mr. Triantafyllos Bitos, Forester - Environmentalist, Olympus National Park Management Unit
  • Ms. Afroditi Siamatra, Forester - Environmentalist, Pieria Prefecture Forest Directorate

The main topics developed included:

  • The role of climate change as a factor in migration
  • Educational approaches and tools Research data on migration flows
  • The impacts of climate change on forest ecosystems
  • Awareness-raising and community participation actions

The event concluded with a discussion, where strong interest and active participation of the attendees was recorded.

Conclusions

The webinar was a great success, contributing significantly to the exchange of knowledge, the development of dialogue and the strengthening of partnerships. It highlighted the importance of education and an interdisciplinary approach in addressing contemporary global challenges, such as climate change and migration.
